Allen R. Freedman
is a proven business leader and venture investor. He combines hands
on operating experience with clear conceptual thinking honed at law
and business schools. He is particularly focused on the
interrelationship of strategy, leadership, culture and governance.
Well before the advent of Sarbanes-Oxley he pioneered in corporate
governance issues. He is a founding director of the Association of
Audit Committee Members, Inc., one of the leading industry
associations in matters of audit and governance. He has served as
Chairman of two successful publicly traded companies and has
engineered scores of successful mergers, acquisitions, divestitures
and several significant turnarounds, creating billions for
investors. Allen and his wife, Judy, actively support educational, medical and arts organizations in their home community.
Allen created and was the first employee of Assurant, Inc (NYSE: AIZ) and grew the company to over 12,000 employees and $8 billion in revenues. Assurant is one of the major specialty insurers in the
United States. He retired as Chairman and CEO of Assurant in 2000 and continued to serve as a director until 2011.
